Would you celebrate the structure of your home?
On a recent building job, where we were doing a home renovation, we had a decision that came up which got us into a discussion about whether exposing and celebrating a homes structural form inside the house is something that you should do when attempting to create a warm, homely space.
The project we were working on was to add an extension onto the back of a house which involved placing steel beams into the roof to secure the structure. The building work was something we have done before but it gave us an idea to leave the beams exposed as a design feature of the room. After discussions with a number of our experienced, trusted tradesmen and the clients themselves the end decision was made to leave to beams exposed and style the rest of the room around this building feature. We might be biased but we think it made a great look for the room.
We think that the structure of a building can be a great feature within the home and can really add to the character of the home. Brick walls, wood beams, steal beams, a quirky shaped roof etc can be a real design feature to your home, sometimes even a talking piece.
